Vivo V23 Pro 5G Smartphone Review

Vivo V23 Pro 5G Smartphone Review

Vivo launched its first 108MP camera smartphone Vivo V23 Pro 5G in the Indian market in early 2022. This phone of the Vivo V23 series has a special color-changing rear panel. The phone has been launched in the market in two variants 8GB RAM + 128GB and 12GB RAM + 256GB. We used this smartphone for a few days and now we have brought its review. Come, know how powerful this smartphone with Vivo’s 108MP camera is.

Vivo has given an ultra-slim 3D curved screen in this smartphone. The corners of its screen are curved up to 57 degrees. The weight of the phone is just 171 grams and it will look very sleek and slim. When you hold it in your hands, it will feel like you are really holding a premium smartphone. Despite the phone having a curved display panel, its gripping is good. Due to the lightness of the phone, you will be able to control it with one hand.

Color-changing glass is available in the rear panel of the phone, which creates a spectrum when sunlight or any artificial UV (ultraviolet) light falls. Because of this, the color of the rear panel of the phone changes. On its back panel, you can also make some designs with lights, which you will see on it for a while. However, after the effect of the light fades, it again returns to its old color.

The rear panel is fitted with Fluorite AG glass sparkles, which reflect different lights. Also, the texture of the rear panel of the phone is quite soft and there is also a nice matte finish, which you will feel while gripping the phone. The best part is that fingerprint smudges do not fall easily on their back panel. This phone comes in two colors finishing Sunshine Gold and Stardust Black. We have reviewed the Sunsign Gold color variant.

On the right side of Vivo V23 Pro, you will find volume rockers on the top, while the power button is given just below it. The microphone is placed at the top. Also, the branding of ‘Professional Photography’ will also be available on the top panel. On the bottom is the USB Type C port and speaker grille. It does not have a 3.5mm audio jack. Vivo has given a 3.5mm jack earphone with the phone and a USB Type C to 3.5mm jack connector in the box, which users will like.

The display panel with the notch feature has been given in the phone. The size of the display is 6.56 inches, which is inclusive of the curved panel. The resolution of its display is 2376×1080 pixels. Vivo has used a full capacitive multi-touch, Full HD Plus (FHD +) AMOLED display panel in this. Its display supports a 90Hz refresh rate. However, when you look at the display, you will find this 120Hz panel, as it is HDR 10+ certified. Being an HDR 10+ certified display, the phone will look good while browsing video content.

Not only this, but the display of this phone is also TUV Rhineland Low Blue Light certified, due to which it absorbs the harmful blue light emitted from the screen. Due to the harmful blue light filter, there is less effect on your eyes. There is a thick notch at the top of the phone’s display, which houses two selfie cameras. Also, there are dual flashlights hidden in the top corner, which are visible while taking selfies with the flash on.

The display of Vivo V23 Pro has an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is quite fast. It can instantly unlock the phone by touching the display. Talking about the display experience of the phone, whether it is Binge Watching or playing games, its display performs well. However, due to the thick notch at the top, it might disappoint you a bit. The company could have used a punch-hole in it, but then two selfie cameras might not be available on the front.

MediaTek Dimensity 1200 5G processor has been used in Vivo V23 Pro. This processor looks quite powerful on paper, but in real-life performance, it is around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Smartphones like OnePlus Nord 2, Poco F3 GT, Realme X7 Max 5G, Oppo Reno 6 Pro are already available in the Indian market with this processor. If you have used any of these phones, then the performance of this phone will also be almost the same. However, this Vivo phone comes with Funtouch OS based on the Android 12 operating system.

At present, there is no problem with multitasking on the phone. We saw it by playing the game PUBG New State. After playing the game continuously for about 35 minutes, its back panel started heating up a bit. However, at the same time, I had also opened many apps on the phone, which were running in the background. The processor of the phone works at the processing speed of 3.0 GHz. It has an octa-core processor, which can be said in simple language, 8 cores of the phone’s processor work together, which makes processing and multitasking smooth.

RAM, Storage, and Network:

Vivo V23 Pro supports up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. We have used its variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The phone has a dual 5G/4G/3G/2G SIM card slot. It does not have an external memory card slot. In such a situation, if you buy a unit with 128GB storage, then its storage is likely to get full quickly.

It gets the Virtual RAM feature, which can convert 8GB of RAM to 12GB of RAM. The phone supports 8GB of physical RAM and 4GB of virtual RAM by default, which you can also turn off if you want. Talking about the network support of the phone, it supports the n1/n3/n5/n8/n41/n77/n78 spectrum bands of SA (stand-alone) of 5G. At the same time, supports all bands of 4G/3G/2G. It will also get features like VoLTE and VoWi-Fi calling.

4,300mAh battery is available in this Vivo smartphone. To charge it, a 44W charging adapter has been given, which is available with the box. It takes 50 minutes to 1 hour for the phone’s battery to be fully charged from 0. Once fully charged, it can last for a whole day. However, it depends on the user.

If, you keep mobile data or the internet on throughout the day. Streaming videos, checking Instagram reels, watching WhatsApp/Facebook status on the phone, then it will have to be charged again in 8 to 10 hours. After fully charging the battery of this phone, we watched 7 episodes of a web series complete. Each episode was about 45 minutes long.

The phone’s battery is more consumable even during video calling and gaming. If you are a pro gamer or you are a working professional who has to do professional meetings on the phone through video calls throughout the day, then its battery will not last long. You will need to carry a power bank or charging adapter with the phone. Not only this, even when doing videography and photography through the phone, its battery discharges rapidly. Since, this phone comes with Android 12, which power optimization feature is available. Because of this, its battery gives a good backup in terms of capacity.

Android 12 Experience:

Vivo V23 Pro is the first smartphone to come with Android 12 out of the box in India. In such a situation, the user will get the experience of Android 12 as soon as he buys the phone. Users switching from Android 11 to Android 12 will find the user interface of the phone the same. However, Google has given many privacy trackers in the new operating system, which you will see while using the phone. As soon as you make a call from the phone, you will see a green light blinking in the right corner, which will indicate that your phone’s microphone is currently being used. At the same time, while making a video call, you will see the microphone as well as the camera there.

If you use the Face Unlock feature in the phone, then every time you unlock the phone, the camera icon will appear on the right side, which will tell that your phone’s camera is being used. Not only this, but you will also know which app you have given which permissions in the phone. As soon as you open an app, you will know whether the app is using the phone’s camera or microphone?

The triple rear camera setup is available in the back of the Vivo V23 Pro. Along with it, an LED flash is provided. The camera module of the phone is quite wide, with two large cameras and one small camera placed directly from top to bottom. At the same time, there is an LED flash on the side, on which 108MP branding has been given.

The primary camera of 108MP has been given in this phone. Apart from this, it has an 8MP wide-angle and 2MP macro camera. The aperture of the primary camera of the phone is f / 1.88. At the same time, the aperture of the wide-angle camera is f / 2.2 and the aperture of the macro camera is f / 2.4. Two cameras have been given in the phone for selfies. The primary selfie camera is 50MP, which has an aperture of f / 2.0. The secondary selfie camera is 8MP, which has an aperture of f / 2.28.

Its rear camera offers features like Autofocus, Night Mode, Super Macro, Portrait Bokeh, Live Photo, Dual Video View, Double Exposure, Sports Mode, Slo-Mo. At the same time, features like Autofocus, AI Extreme Night, Multi-Style Portrait, Slo-Mo, Live Photo, Sports Mode Selfie will also be available in the selfie camera.

Talking about camera experience, the picture taken in daylight with its primary rear camera is good, but we found the photo of low light to be average. Despite having a 108MP camera, only a 10x digital zoom feature has been given to it. Also, the picture taken from the phone in low light is pixelated. The picture of daylight looks clear, but the natural color is not seen well in it. It seems that the color of the photo has been changed with the help of some software. Especially the color of green leaves will make you feel a bit dull.

You will get three modes while clicking the photo. With this, you will be able to click the picture by setting 1x, 2x, or 0.6x zoom. A picture taken in night mode looks good on the phone’s display, but the moment you cast it on the screen of your smart TV or laptop, it is quite pixelated.

The picture taken with an ultra-wide camera and the macro camera will be fine for you. To take a picture with a macro camera, you have to select 0.6x zoom in the camera app. After this, you will be able to click the photo by keeping the object close to the camera. At the same time, while using the ultra-wide-angle camera, the zoom will have to be taken to 2x.

The picture taken with the selfie camera will also look fake to you. The phone’s camera is fine for clicking selfies, uploading to social media, and video calling, etc. The same selfie camera works during video calling. The second camera will only work while capturing photos. Only the left side selfie camera works when 0.6x zoom is selected. The selfie camera on the right works when the normal mode ie 1x zoom is selected.

The way the company has branded Professional Photography on this phone does not live up to it as you would expect. Some other smartphones coming in this price range will get better camera quality than this. Talking about the video, it supports 4K video recording. You can capture good quality videos with this phone.

Our decision:

Experience of Android 12 will be available in Vivo V23 Pro 5G smartphone. Also, this phone also attracts look wise. Its display quality is good and you will not feel that it supports a 90Hz refresh rate while using it. It will seem that you are using a display with 120Hz refresh rate support. Also, due to the curved display, it also gives a premium feel. The starting price of the phone is Rs 38,990. Compared to other mid-range 5G smartphones from other brands in this price range, some things may disappoint you.

Vivo has used a MediaTek processor in this phone, which makes the phone behind in performance compared to the price. The 108MP camera and professional photography are just right for branding. Nothing new will be seen in the phone’s camera. More focus of the company is visible on its design. Its look is excellent, but in terms of performance and to some extent camera quality, it lags behind the phone coming at this price. Vivo’s other smartphones that come with 64 megapixels get better camera quality than this. It seems that the company has made a bet on 108MP this time by focusing on the number of camera sensors more than the camera quality, considering the market trend.
